Privacy Policy

Shouks (“Shouks”, “we”, “us”) operates a platform for creating and joining private, invite-only marketplaces where vetted members buy, sell, and trade with one another. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to shouks.com and the Shouks app.
Information we collect
Account information you provide when you sign up: your display name, email address, and password (stored only as a salted hash) or, if you use Google or Facebook sign-in, the basic profile information those providers return. Verification information when you link a social or phone account to prove you are a real person — the handle or phone number and the fact that it verified. Marketplace activity you generate as you use Shouks: the marketplaces you own or join, applications, listings and their contents, bids, saved searches, saved listings, messages, reports, and notifications. Technical information collected automatically, such as your IP address, device and browser type, and basic log data used to keep the service secure and working.
How we use your information
We use your information to run the marketplace product: to create and authenticate your account, route listings and messages to the right people, decide who can post or apply, surface activity and notifications, help marketplace owners review applications and moderate content, and keep the platform safe from fraud and abuse. We also use it to respond to your support requests and to comply with our legal obligations. We do not sell your personal information, we do not use it for third-party advertising, and we do not use it to train machine-learning models.
Google user data
If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from your Google account. We use this data solely to create and authenticate your Shouks account and to populate your profile. Shouks’ use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We do not share Google user data with third parties except as needed to provide the service, do not use it for advertising, and do not use it to train models. You can revoke Shouks’ access at any time from your Google Account’s security settings, and you can delete your account and associated data as described below.
How we share information
Other members and owners of a marketplace you join can see the information you choose to share there — your profile, listings, bids, and messages within that community. Marketplace owners and moderators can see the applications and content of their own members in order to run the community. We share data with service providers that host and operate Shouks (for example our cloud hosting and database providers) under contracts that limit their use of it. We may disclose information when required by law or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If Shouks is involved in a merger or acquisition, we will notify you before your information becomes subject to a different policy.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account we erase your profile, linked verification handles, memberships, applications, listings, bids, saves, messages, and notifications. We may retain a minimal record where the law requires it — for example, transaction history needed for tax or fraud-prevention purposes — and then erase it once that obligation ends.
Your rights and choices
You can access and update most of your information from Settings. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time from Settings → Account, or by emailing us — see our Data Deletion page for details. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information; contact us to exercise them.
